30 days writing on a notebook
I had to write in my native language, Portuguese, I think it is because I have thoughts in Portuguese, my inner voice is in this language, and I want to make it simple.
I do this writing thing as a therapeutic moment. I didn't think about what I wanted to write before, I just put the pen on the paper and gave my brain the relief to just write. I tried to keep doing this without restrictions like talking about only one specific theme, or how I would write, grammatically, and things like that. I just have one condition and it is about how much I need to write, maximum and minimum, and this depends on the notebook. For example, in this notebook, I do 2 sheets or 4 pages per day, sometimes it is not enough to free my mind but I try not to pass this limit because it is easy to lose how much time I spend with my thoughts.
I have been writing since the pandemic situation, but not with consistency. I wrote like a wave, sometimes I needed and I started again, and then I just stopped. Returning and leaving.
It took much time for me, to see that I enjoy the process of writing, to sit and use a pen and paper. I tried to use the digital form before, but for me is better in the analogic way. In the future, I wish I could try to use a digital Ink device ( like Kindle Scribe or Remarkable), not a screen with light like a tablet, to see if the problem is with the sensation or just because paper will be always the paper.
Some books say that writing is good, like The Artist's Path by Julia Cameron, I started this book, but have not finished (future project?), and The Miracle Morning by Hal Elrod. In these books, are some parts of writing in the morning and how it will change your life!
I believe that is good to write doesn't matter what time you do. If is better for you to write in the morning do it, if is better to do it at night, do it, or in the afternoon? just do it! No one can tell what is better for your time and routine. The importance is, to do it when is better for you, and when you can maintain the habit. Could change your life? Could, but it is not mathematics, to know exactly. But writing can help you to change some parts of your life, the write alone will not make changes.
Why I am saying this? Because when someone says that something works for them in that specific way, I think I need to do it in this specific way to work for me too. I never realized that there are different ways to do things, that are not necessary to do exactly the same as the other person said it works for me.
It seems obvious but many times I tried to do things as one author in a book said or in a YouTube channel. I managed to start but not maintain. Every time I couldn't maintain the person's miracle idea or rule to achieve the specific things that I wanted to be or do, it made me feel miserable, and frustrated and I hated myself. I judged my capacity and compared myself to others.
Just because I wanted to be another person than me, I wanted to be what society sells in books, magazines, and everywhere. I wanted to adjust myself to be in a box that I imagined be the best for me.
And, nowadays I am just trying to understand how it will work better for me. I am testing what time is better FOR ME to write, what works better, and how it is possible to adapt to my reality. I still believe that we can learn from other's experiences, but now I know we don't need to do exactly as others were saying to be done. The flexibility makes it more viable to maintain the writing goal. I am proud of myself because I could do this, for one whole month! And I want to still continue writing.
For finishing and the last incentive, just give it a chance, to write without barriers and comparison. Your mind deserves freedom, doesn't matter how you write, the way that you write, it is just for you and for yourself alone.
Wish you a good day, XOXO
