Amigurumi bear using knitting technique
I thought I needed a nice photo to show the little bear, but the weather where I live is not good now and there is no natural light at the moment. So, I tried to do some photo editing in the Inshot Android app, and the picture with the yellow background was the result of this test using the app. It was really fast to edit and easy, I had a little fun too.
I don't think it is so bad but it is not what I had in mind, I want to learn more about photography not so much in editions. However, I was surprised by the result and the facility to do it using the cellphone without long editions, etc.
Talking about the project now, it is an Amigurumi Bear made using the knitting technique. This little bear hasn't a name yet, but I am thinking of a good name related to coding... Maybe Code? I don't know yet. He was made to be my emotional support during the new phase of my life (in the future I will write about it).
Why I chose a knitting bear pattern and not a crochet pattern? Because at this moment, I am enjoying doing more knitting projects and this technique makes me remember my grandmother who asked me to keep studying. And I still want to be always learning. The Bear has the symbolism of strength for me and reminds me that I still have hibernated my dream to have a graduation diploma, but one day I will make it true. So, I need to be strong to achieve this goal one day, I will not kill my dream.
To make the bear, take me the whole Sunday 1st October and part of the Saturday too. It was good to make him. I really enjoyed the experience.
The pattern is free and designed by a Brazilian Artisan named Leticia Yamashita, her profile is named Telecê, I found it on a YouTube video, at this link.
I must say that the video is in Portuguese and the pattern is in Portuguese too. But it is easy to follow.
I think it is not a very advanced pattern, but to make it, is necessary to know how to use the magic ring with circular needles/lace needles for all the parts of the bear and the tie too. It is made with the knit stitch (in Portuguese we call Ponto Meia). I used a pair of safety eyes 8 mm and did the embroidery with the same yarn as the project but I just used fewer yarn cables.
I used a circular needle/ lace needle 3.0 mm by the brand Addi, specifically the ergonomic named Addi Novel. It was amazing to work with it! Really! Made my project easier and I didn't lose stitches and had no pain in my hands after using this needle for a long time.
The arms and ears were made separated from the body of the bear, I needed to sew them when I finished all the parts. The legs and the head were made in one part. The head had a particularity because it needed to be made picking up the stitches from the beginning of the body.
For me, the worst part is when is necessary to sew both sides symmetrically (I like it when both sides are equal) sometimes it is so difficult for me. It is so frustrating. I am still working on the thought that is normal that one side will be different from than other because is handmade! But is difficult not to compare.
On both sides of the arms, there is a button. I used them to try to do a movement in the arms. Worked a little, and I liked the result, but I have a fear that if I move so much the line that I made to connect the arms will break and the arms will fall. But just not move it so much, maybe it will not happen.
The original pattern is a Panda, but I decided to make it like a Brown Bear. And again, I enjoyed the result! Without the tie, I didn't like it so much, but with the yellow tie, it looks like really cute.
The bear is 15 cm tall. It is not too small.
The experience was nice, and I enjoyed making him, but if I do this bear again, I will change the yarn, I used cotton yarn, and I think it will be softer if I use another kind of yarn.
I will post more pictures of the bear on the Instagram page to show more details.
XOXO
